A Card Edge Connector is generally used for connecting one PCB to another in order to allow for the transmission of data and communication. They may also connect to a ribbon cable or to another edge connector that connects to another printed circuit board(PCB). A common use of the edge connector is known as a backplane for personal computer systems. They may also be applicable to traffic control systems, medical equipment and various system applications.
Card Edge Contact termination types include P.C. tail, wire hole, wire warp, extender board bends, and 90-degree bends. The mounting options include through-hole, floating eyelets, threaded inserts, side mounting holes and no mounting lugs. The card guides and polarizing key are attached to the card edge connector to help ensure that the mother or daughter card is inserted the correct way into the connector slot.
